Don't you think Soda is going to beat Mayer?

Who knows what will happen in that last match. Nalby is coming off 10 months of major hip surgery and recovery and Pim Pim looked sharp on Friday.

Nalby: 2010 Legg Mason ATP 500 Champion (Welcome back!! )
Nole: 2009 Paris Bercy Masters & 2010 Dubai ATP500 Champion
Soderking: 2010 ABN AMRO Rotterdam ATP500 Champion

Re: Soderking Chat Thread vol.1

But Soderking did his part. Sweden just doesn't have anyone to back him up these days... I kind of expected this result.

Now then. On to Indian Wells. What can Robin accomplish there? What do you guys think?

Re: Soderking Chat Thread vol.1

Well, if he gets a good draw he can go far i think. In both these masters he's got little points to defend and has a great chance to collect more for the future. I'm thinking about the French where i don't think he'll reach as far this year and then it's good to have some points to keep you afloat when the FO points drop of. Actually i think he'll gather enough points to not fall out of the top 10 after the French, or atleast i really hope so.

Re: Soderking Chat Thread vol.1

He is only defending 10 pts at both Indian Wells and Miami. His form continued to look good taking down Leonardo Mayer, who is a player on the rise for Argentina, and had only lost to the eventual champion in all three American hard court events he played prior to the Davis Cup. So outlook is very bright going into Indian Wells. I am glad he played the minimum number of sets for playing 3 DC matches as I have been worried that he might exhaust himself. But he looked good after the match cheering on Vinciguerra.

Anyone have any critiques of how Sweden utilized their players in the three matches outside of the Soda singles? Simon Aspelin just won the Dubai Doubles Championship a week ago last Sunday. It seems a little crazy not to use a top 20 doubles player that just won an ATP500 Championship. I looked at his history and the history of Lindstedt, and noticed they don't play together, which seems kind of strange since they both hover around the Top 20. Does anyone know the story behind that? Also, it was obvious going in that Mayer has been playing some pretty good tennis on the American hard court surfaces and was the Argentine #1. I didn't think Pim Pim lost the match on Friday so much as Mayer won it. The match was decided by the fact Mayer converted his break points (3/3) and Pim Pim did not (1/6). Since Pim Pim just took out some major names in his last two tournaments last Fall (Hewitt at Kuala Lumpur and Juan Monaco at the Stockholm Open) and Vinci is 0-1 at the ATP level for this year, I was surprised Pim Pim didn't play David in the Final rubber.

I guess it is easy to sit back and critique moves after the event, but as an Armchair Coach I would find some way for Aspelin and Lindstedt to get some practice and tournament experience (if possible....don't know the full story behind that) together and have them play the Doubles rubber together. I would accept Pim Pim's participation and if he lost to the other country's #1 in a tough match on Friday, I'd play him again on Sunday with no regrets. He has proven he can beat the top players on a reliable basis. I just don't understand those decisions.

As a fan of Nalby, I was relieved to see Vinci out there instead of Pim Pim for David's match even before it began. Pim Pim would have been an intimidating opponent for a guy that wasn't feeling 100%. Also, David wouldn't have been able to impose his veteran status over an opponent like Pim Pim who has taken out other vets like Hewitt in recent matches. Other Nalby fans also expressed relief Pim Pim wasn't David's opponent before the match. That was the fear from the Argentine fan base going in. What else can I say?

Nalby: 2010 Legg Mason ATP 500 Champion (Welcome back!! )
Nole: 2009 Paris Bercy Masters & 2010 Dubai ATP500 Champion

I wasn't happy when I saw it either. Only one way to look at it if you are Soda: it is payback time!

Oh yeah, and then Tsonga or Llodra (who he just lost to at Marseille) in R16 if he gets past the first two historically difficult match-up problems. It is almost like someone purposely drew his worst match-ups on purpose. Why does the 6th seed get the 9th seed in his 1/16? I never understand why they just don't do it straight up with #1 getting #16, #2 getting #15 and so on. Noone would have any questions or issues if they just did it flush with the seedings meeting in a dependable format. He should be on a path to play #11 JC Ferrero instead of Tsonga in R16.

Robin is playing doubles today together with Robert Lindstedt. They are going to play against Benneteau / Tsonga. Good luck Robin & Robban!
