Murray on clay - Did he really improve? What's wrong with him?

Pre 2011 showed up an Andy Murray who couldn't really play big matches on clay.
Here in MTF, we all remember his loss to Kohlschreiber after receiving a WC, but that wasn't his only disappointing result on clay. He lost in Rome vs Monaco in 2009.

2011 was a different story.
A really different story...

Semis in Montecarlo - Defeating players like Stepanek and Simon and winning a ser over Nadal.
Semis in Rome - almost winning over Djokovic (champion), getting into a 3rs set tiebreak and serving for the match.
Semis in Roland Garros (He didn't defeat any good player here, but still...)

Some people thought 2012 was Murray's clay year.
But, he lost in Montecarlo vs Berdych, in Barcelona vs Raonic and now in Rome vs Gasquet. He didn't reach a SF of any tournament.

So, discuss:

- What's wrong with Murray?
- Did he really improve in 2011?
- What's gonna bring the future?

I actually think Bernard Tomic will easily win career-year mixed doubles slam in 2020.

Jealous? Yeah, you are, you dirty hater.
