Re: Damir Dzumhur

Winner from the heart of Bosnia

This weekend, Damir Dzumhur, the biggest tennis hope of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has definitely closed a phase in his tennis development. Namely he has won a trophy on Cividino (Italy) Futures, which is his 6th title in the last 10 months. This 19 year old Sarajevan began his winning spree in June of 2011 (Brcko, BiH), continued in September and November (Osijek and Dubrovnik), and in December in Turkey (Antalya), just to extend the roll in February this year again in Turkey (Antalya) and now in Italy.

First three titles were won on clay courts, two on hard courts, while the last one was won indoors. In the past ten months he has also played one final (Belgrade, Serbia), but came up shorthanded, making his finally tally a rather impressing 6-1.

Thus in his trophy room there is only one trophy missing – one won on grass courts – to really have a perfect collection. Certainly, Damir and his father Nerfid Dzumhur, who is also his career long coach, will find the way to add such a title to their list.

Damir Dzumhur plays Davis Cup this week and switches to clay thereafter (Brazil).

All the above mentioned results will largely reflect upon the ATP ranking coming out on April 9th, when Dzumhur will break into top 300. More precisely, he will be ranked around 270, making him the second all-time best ranked Bosnian player. Amer Delic, who ranked 60 in 2007, will be the sole remaining ahead of Damir.
