Re: The Mihail Zverev Cheering Thread
2011 marked the first time since 2006 that Mischa did not finish within the year-end top 100 of the rankings. After a poor 2010 through September which saw his ranking fall as low as #159, Mischa qualified and made the finals of Metz, qualified and made the 3rd round of Shanghai and qualified and made the 2nd round of Montpellier during the fall to finish at #82 in the world.
Unfortunately, 2011 was even less successful for Mischa, as he struggled with back and wrist issues and only once won back-to-back matches (two qualifying matches in Rotterdam) and didn't do so in any MD event until November. In back to back events near the end of the season Mischa qualified and defeated Niland in the first round of Eckental and qualified and made the finals of Geneva challengers, raising his ranking from a low of #280 to finish #211 in the world, his lowest finish since 2005.
2012 has been much more successful at the beginning of the season in comparison to his last two, with only two opening match losses thus far on the year. Mischa's best result prior to this week was qualifying and winning a match in the Heilbronn challenger, but this week has been a breakout tournament for him, as he has made the finals of Le Gosier without losing a set! He has defeated Blake, Kunitsyn and Rochus the past three rounds to make the finals, three of his best wins in over a year. He plays David Goffin for the title, which would raise him inside the top-165. GL in the finals, Mischa!
