very true

in fact federer had more potential than pete (who was very much a SERVER in the serve and volley ability)

Rafter for example had better volleys than both guys-

federer (had he not abandoned the volley because of sand paper courts) could have been as good as edberg with the volley

the term textbook is usually throttled out - but in the case of federer its very much on point
he is textbook perfection in all shots- and in the case of his legendary forehand- he rewrote the textbook

(i try not to gush but he's just so damn good)

Sampras volleys were always overrated. An eight year old girl using a toy tennis racquet could successfully put away volleys after Sampras serve

Jawdropping stuff

Most players have a better backhand volley because the blocking motion is more natural. On the forehand there is always the temptation to swing too much.
