Re: What are some good performances by players in their final ever tournament?

Let's compare how other players did in their final events.

2000 - In his last ever event, 4 time Slam champ Jim Courier loses in the 2nd round to Thomas Enqvist in Tennis Masters Series Miami. His last slam performance was a 1st round exit Nicolas Escude in 4 sets at the 2000 Australian Open.

2003 - In his last ever event, the former French Open champ Michael Chang loses in the first round of the 2003 US Open to Fernando Gonzalez in 4 sets.

2004 - the 2001 Wimbledon champ, Goran Ivanisevic's last tournamet was the 2004 Wimbledon where he loses in the 3rd round to Lleyton Hewitt in straight sets.

2003 - Former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek goes down in the first round in Ordina Open in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands to Oliver Mutis.

2006 - The Scud, Mark Phillipousis goes down in the 2nd round of a challenger in Hawaii to Brendan Evans and his last Slam performance was a straight sets exit to Rafa Nadal at the 2006 US Open. I would say his ending was pretty dismal.

2001 - One of the better endings for a career was Patrick Rafter's. At least he made he ended his career on a high. His last match was a Davis Cup clinching match against Sebastien Grosjean in the 2006 Davis Cup finals. His slam performance was a 4th round showing and bowing out to Pistol Pete Sampras at the 2001 US Open.
