Is youtube becoming useless as far as watching tennis highlights?

I have noticed that ATP is taking down Highlights and full matches of M1000 recently..Last year RG ordered them to erase all of its videos contents..Copy infringement

Clearly, Youtube best days are behind them..What exactly has left of this garbage site? And it is not only sport..

Yes, but it happens not only on youtube.
Many highlight videos got uploaded on daylimotion, they got taken down there, too

Yes. If you are a highlight maker use dailymotion or some other video hosting site.

Yeah, you can't find good highlights of Wimbledon or Roland Garros.

Just came back from Germany and i was shocked how useless youtube is over there.

Tennis highlights is one thing, but from my playlist of over 60 songs only 5 would play

Felt kinda good about living in Bulgaria....

Generally youtube has gone to the toilet its peak was somewhere between 2006-2010 before it was acquired by Google where you could watch/upload almost anything unhindered..

Maybe the point of YouTube was for people to be able to have a place to put videos of themselves/ videos that they made and could share with the world. Rather than other people's stuff.

I don't really understand why they wouldn't want videos of matches online. It's not like there are legal ways of watching recordings of most of these matches. Anything that promotes the game should be embraced.

Shitsite can't load their flv files in apple products. You have to convert small files or use some software to convert large files.
most videos are unable to load unless you get the fox tube app.

I couldn't agree more. People at the ATP/ITF, tournament organizers/directors are all idiots (RG is probably the worst offender here). Instead of popularizing tennis they are making restrictions. As an alternative they can post videos of matches/highlights on their own websites. They don't do that either. They don't even sell them. I don't get it.

Think about kids who are now 5 yo and who might get interesting in tennis when they grow up... i.e. in 15 years when Fed, Nole and Rafa and other current players are all retired these new tennis fans won't be able to watch some of the most memorable matches in tennis history.

It really pisses me off

This. Regarding popularizing of the sport, everybody should look up to the NBA. Marketing and popularizing on many ways, including bunch of various videos - highlights, analysis, interviews, funny stuff - all kinds of videos, available on the site and on yt. People also upload their own stuff on yt, including some of the full matches.

So when average kid - a future consumer or maybe a pro - searches on yt and google sport-related content, it's like at least 1000x more likely it will be attracted to football or basketball than tennis. Maybe this is one of the reasons tennis future doesn't seem so bright?
It's definitely the reason why NBA's popularity has grown hugely, from minor local to global.

Re: Is youtube becoming useless as far as watching tennis highlights?

For me, this has only become a recent problem, but its gotten shockingly worse in the past year or so.

From 2009-2012, you could find literally anything related to tennis on Youtube. Obviously you could before that, too, but that was still while the site was becoming popular so m1000 matches were much harder to find then. I remember in late 2011, I was able to watch full matches AND comprehensive highlight packages from each of the Men's QF matchups at the USO that year. It was a great system - I never really needed to DVR anything because I always knew that if it was a good match, I could watch the replay on youtube, and if it was crap, I could watch a short highlights package.

Youtube made some changes (not the most recent ones) sometime in 2012 that changed things greatly for the worse. The French Tennis Federation had always been the strictest on copyright, but they suddenly went on a deletion binge and now you literally can't find anything. Wimbledon was great in 2012 - you could see highlight packages from almost every single televised match for a while after the tournament, but gradually those videos began disappearing and now very few are left. And in 2013, copyright claims were getting thrown left and right and almost nothing was available. The USO followed suit. As I said before, it was great in 2011 but was worse in 2012 and became even worse in 2013.

The Australian Open strangely remains the last major tournament where videos are generally still posted without much fear of takedown. You can still find a ton of matches (both highlights + full) from 2012, 2013, and 2014. That's rather bizarre because the Australian Open directors have their own channel and they are very active in posting their own highlights, but really don't seem to care that other uploaders do so as well.

Honestly, I think these tournaments are stabbing themselves in the foot with all this takedown nonsense. There's a reason the AO has gained significant popularity over the past few years, and I think it has a lot to do with their promotions and public relations - more specifically, not freaking out every time some random guy in Michigan decides to film his TV screen for a blurry capture of a match point.

The Legends: Stan "The Man" Wawrinka Juan Martin Del Potro Ernests Gulbis Grigor Dimitrov Jerzy Janowicz

Never support a pusher. Never cheer for errors. Applaud good tennis.
