Could Mike Tyson have been a top tennis player?

I read some discussions about Steffi Graf and Novak Djokovic being such great athletes that they could make it in other sports and be at the top because of their athleticism and other physicial attributes. This may be true. What about the other way around?

Mike Tyson was a very talented and succesful boxer in his prime (from 18-23 yrs old). He was the best in his time by far and he had a lot of qualities that made him so great at boxing and I believe these same qualities are very important in tennis:

1. Power
2. Endurance/Stamina
3. Precision
4. Speed/Explosiveness
5. Footwork
6. Flexibility
7. Mentally tough

So, if Tyson chose tennis he would have been playing from 1984 in the Sampras/Agassi era. Would he have been a top player? Vote!

Tyson played with Navratilova lol

Or better version of Tsonga?

Re: Could Mike Tyson have been a top tennis player?

With Cus D'Amato coaching, he'd probably have had a great start to his tennis career.

Everyone would think he's possibly the greatest of all time...but his career would be stalled for three years to serve a jail sentence for a sex crime conviction.

Then he'd probably come back and attempt to recapture that old glory, but his wild behavior would just keep getting in the way. Some would question whether he should be banned from the sport altogether, after biting Mark Philippoussis's ear during a televised championship match.

After getting a BADASS facial tattoo and attempting a couple of comebacks against washed-up journeymen...he'd probably just have to retire, become reflective about his past, and make cameo appearances in a couple summer blockbuster comedy films.

I'm only guessing.

haha, I'm just glad somebody knew who I was talking about. Yeah, I always thought the same thing, but then I saw his name spelled-out in a boxing documentary or two.

This thread has sent me into a Tyson youtube vortex. Now I can't stop watching the guy punch people's HEADS.

a Tyson match would be the only sport event I was allowed to stay up for the whole night when a child, the same for hundred of friends.
don't think any other boxer has been able to capture such interest, I mean in the 'modern' era.
