Nadal is actually rather unpopular among tennis fanatics, but he's much better known to non-tennis followers

Re: novak djokovic endorsements potential

adidas may have the accurate answer

ASI Director-General Gautam Sengupta said the list of India's treasures held abroad was "too long to handle" and there was a need for a "diplomatic and legal campaign" for their restitution from institutions, including the British Museum, the Royal Collection and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

now, Muzza making more than Nole, I don't think so. check your facts btw.
Some guys who don't like Nole saying Nole doesn't have a personality, yeah right, you do.

Nole changing sponsors, so what. Adidas chose Murry at that time, so Nole went to ST, they weren't able to keep up with their contract with Nole. They couldn't pay, they couldn't even produce enough of freaking Novak's T shirts, shorts etc. they were always late to deliver merchandise to stores worldwide (google it, it's all there). no wonder Novak left. Uniqlo is doing a pretty good job btw, it was a good decision to go with them.

and this argument 'Novak is only after money' is probably the stupidest thing I've ever read on MTF. what Fed/Rafa/Muz are not? They don't like money? give me a break. stupid, stupid, stupid.

again and again, check your facts before you post some nonsense. I didn't want to quote anyone but these silly kids know who I was referring to.

the bottom line is, I don't really care about how much money top guys make and who is going to make more. Some of you react here like 'mine is bigger than yours', meaning you are worshiping player A, hate player B and then you BS

love you all

Re: novak djokovic endorsements potential

Surpassing Fed would require at least 14-5 Slams, he would he to become, not a legend, but an icon of the sport. As for Nadal, he has a clear advantage bcs of being from Spain and bcs he broke out earlier (more people heard of him, became a legend earlier), but I could see that change if Novak proceeds to dominate. He has charisma and fun personality. I think he can appeal to both east (Asia and Eastern Europe) and west (Western Europe and North America). Don't think he will earn more money than Nadal at the end of their careers, but could as well become a bigger 'endorsement star' in one point. Don't forget he speaks fluent English, can be fun for English speaking people (not a non-factor, you can appeal to someone easier when he can understand you and your jokes and stuff, Rafa is just a pretty face on TV than can play tennis for English speaking people). He also speaks German, Italian, some French, learning Chinese, Japanese a little, people there love him. Remember he was suppose to make an appearance in the Expendables 2... But he can also be classy, do Rogery stuff. If he was from USA he would be 1 of the biggest endorsement stars on Earth.

Speaking of money, do you guys realize that Novak is only 2M away from surpassing Nadal in prize money from tournaments

Djokovic | Tipsarevic | Querrey

That's because prizemoney has increased so much in the past couple of years alone.

I don't see the problem with that. Nadal could've won those prize money and widen the gap even further against Nole. Anyway, I don't think we should include it since we're talking about earnings from endorsements.

Neither Murray or Djokovic is particularly marketable compared to Federer or Nadal, but Murray is from an anglophone country, therefore he has a huge advantage.

As long as Murray continues to be successful - wins a few more Slams, stays at the top of the rankings - I think that he will pick up a bigger share of the endorsements than Djokovic even if Djokovic stays number one.

Other activities: Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition; Shakira video

Djokovic: Audemar Piguet; Head; Uniqlo; Mercedes (Serbia only); Serbian telecom; Unicef (there may be others I'm not aware of but certainly nothing big and global I don't think.)

Nadal has a very clear image -- Spanish bull; fighter; young/exciting. He's more well known -- compare his 11m+ facebook followers and 3.5m+ twitter followers to Novak's 1m+ on facebook and 1.5m+ on twitter, and from a more marketable part of the world. Nadal's rivalry with Federer also propelled him into the public consciousness more IMO. Novak being Eastern European I do think hurts his marketability - it's not right but it's true that being from a big, well-known European country is easier to sell. Novak is funny and has more of a "joker" image but as yet I don't see him getting anywhere near Nadal's deals, just like Nadal is very far from Federer's.
Novak has already 2,6 million in facbook, check your data. And most Nadal's endorsements are from Spain and long time ago when he was winning everything.

Utter nonsense.

Most from Spain? Like Kia; Richard Mille; Armani; Nike; Babolat; Pokerstars; vStrator; Lanvin; Bacardi right?
Long time ago? Like Pokerstars that he just signed last year? Or vStrator? Or Richard Mille where they've produced another limited edition watch that he'll wear this year? Or Bacardi where he's been resigned as their Corporate Responsibility ambassador and will be doing events next month?

Novak got a LOT of followers when Sharapova linked to his facebook - before that he didn't even have 1 million FB fans. Similarly whereas Nadal's car deal is global, Novak's is specific to Serbia with Federer the global ambassador.

No one is saying Novak won't get endorsements but it's a simple fact that he's not as popular with advertisers as Nadal and likely won't ever be. It's to do with image and marketability - not all results. Novak won 1 slam last year. So did Nadal. For advertisers Nadal is still doing fine. It's not a slight on Novak - for obvious reasons Nadal will never get as many endorsements as Federer - you don't have Nadal fans arguing Fed's endorsements were only when he was winning lots and are all from Switzerland.

It's pretty clear what images Federer and Nadal are selling, even if you don't really know much about them. The way they dress, their look, the way they talk. Federer screams effortless aristocratic class. Nadal screams tough, young and cool.

What do you think of when you look at Djokovic? Ask 10 people and you will get a bunch of different answers and most of them will struggle to think of something.

He's a nice guy and very talented, but everything about him screams "generic East European athlete" - right down to the military haircut.

And what image has Nadal got? My god, the guy is ugly and unsophisticated. Don't fool yourself, all his marketability is because of his achievements and his rivalry with federer.

Armani was just one campaign. Nike is his sponsor since he started as a tennis player, Nole could have it if he wanted to. Just needs to wear the clothes, but he prefers to be in a brand with no one else. Babolat is his racket sponsor. Pokerstars? the guy likes to play online poker. Richard Mille? I'll take Audemar Piguet anytime, or Rolex. Nothing that exciting really. Nole just signed to IMG and is starting to capitalise now on his image. Wait a couple of years and you will see.

And about Sharapova... yeah, she brought some fans to Nole when they did that Head campaign together, but it wasn't a million, jesus.
Maybe some thousands, nothing else. Obviously you don't follow him on facebook as I do, how would you know?
