Re: AO 2013 "Tennis Draw" Game

I am some kind of "Fedtard", but this was a great and deserved win for Del Potro, it will be a grand final.

I like the format of the tournament the only thing that doesn´t like me was the TieBreak in the early rounds only one point decided the match, maybe something like one game instead of that

Re: AO 2013 "Tennis Draw" Game

Sorry again for the wait. Bad time for me again. Will respond to all the comments in a minute. Meanwhile, lets kick things off.

Final

Best-of-5-sets. Point Scoring. 1 vote = 1 point. Tie breaks in all sets except the deciding set. Tiebreaks will be played out . 2-games lead required for the 5th set.(Same format as Semi-Final)

Code:
NISHIKORI, Kei vs DEL POTRO, Juan Martin 0-0 0-0[LIVE]
Road to the final(Thanks to Lenders for this)

NISHIKORI, Kei:
Code:
R1: Nishikori def. Hanescu 6-1
R2: Nishikori def. Berlocq 6-0
R3: Nishikori def. Ungur 6-3 6-0
R4: Nishikori def. Bagdathis 6-1 6-1 5-7 6-2
QF: Nishikori def. Janowicz 6-2, 6-0, 6-1
SF: Nishikori def. Wawrinka 6-2 6-1 6-2

Sets: 13-1 Games: 83-23 (+60)

DEL POTRO, Juan Martin :
Code:
R1: Del Potro def. Qualifier 6-0
R2: Del Potro def. Becker 6-2
R3: Del Potro def. Chardy 6-4 6-2
R4: Del Potro def. Cilic 6-4 3-6 6-3 1-6 6-3
QF: Del Potro def. Monfils 6-4 6-4 6-3
SF: Del Potro def. Federer 3-6, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3

Sets: 13-4 Games: 90-61 (+29)
Great comeback from The tower of Tandil in the Semi to take out the favourite Federer. Now he is up against the Samurai. Kei has destroyed all of his opponents till now, but he has not faced any top 15 players yet. In the (in)famous Lenders terminology this could be referred to as Kei 'vultured his way through the final' . Can he beat a Top 10 opponent in the most important match of his career or will the Tower will be too strong for him?

The Samurai vs The Tower.

Let's get ready to rumble.

A kick-serve is sliced back deep by Del Potro. He lumbers to the net from this approach, an ungainly giraffe searching for the choicest leaves to chew. He bends down to dig out the dipping forehand at net, and produces a stunning drop volley. Tennis is the winner.

A more lengthy exchange from the competitors this time. Del Potro gradually pushed Nishikori deeper behind the baseline, forcing him in to a defensive rut before drawing an error with one last heavy forehand.

Big serve and then blast a forehand Del Potro himself would be proud of. Game point to hold the always crucial first game. Kei showing little signs of nerves in his first final, apart from that first point.

MTF games titles:

Fill-in-the-Draw (3): US Open 2014, Rotterdam 2013 and Geneva 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 ATP 500 and 1 ATP 250

Tennis Tipping (3): Veneza and Todi 2014 (with vn01), Knoxville 2015 (with Redkop) - 3 challengers; 7 finals lost

This was an important point for me(and Featherer) while deciding the format. Glad that at least some people thought of it.

A few Fed fans(Slasher and myself, maybe more) were consistently voting for Del Potro in the SF.

As Lenders said, this is the first time this game if being held. I plan to hold it for all the grand slams(and as of now, nothing more). Since it is my game, it would be nice if nobody else starts it for the next grans slams

As a trial run, no one was sure how many participants the game would get. In the interest of finishing in a timely manner, the earlier rounds were made shorter.

But I think, too, after playing it through, making every round point-by-point would be far too tiresome, especially since it would mean enduring many matches which people have no interest in. It's important to keep participants interested.

While that makes every player more vulnerable due to the shoot-out style of the early rounds. Voting them through appropriately earns their right to a more forgiving format, I think.

Gradually increasing the length of the rounds is the best way to go about this; it allows for some upsets early on and then in the late stages the guys who went past that 'shootout' duke it out in more forgiving formats. The format used in this game was almost perfect imo.
almost? How could it be improved?

I think part of the charm of this game would be lost if done regularly. Also, if it is done 13 times a year, I doubt the mods would allow it in GM. This wouldn't do so well in Games/OT.

I like the element of uncertainty. An alternative could be using all sets as advantage sets when there is game scoring.

For any further comments/suggestions about possible changes of format, please PM me(or wait for the end of the game), as it is possible that your post or my response gets lost amongst the voting posts.
