Wouldn't be entirely without precedence. Tiger Woods was named sportsman of the year in 1997 even though Greg Norman topped the world ranking. So - second best golfer, best sportsman any sport....of course, that was an American award. A more international one thought 800-meters runner Wilson Kipketer deserved the title.

Shame he won't win Laureus

This reward sucks anyway. There were examples of people who were winning Laureus for the best sportsmen but didn't win this award

the only thing is, after everything happened with Lance Armstrong. I'm not interested in cycling at all any more. my impression is that 'everyone' is doping. soon or later, something comes up ... just meh. I don't trust them.

In tennis, you need to be a good athlete but also have a great technique to be successful. It's so much more complex than sports like cycling.

my post has nothing to do with Nole btw. Congrats to all winners.

True enough. He's only one behind schedule, seeing as Fed had three six years ago. Sooner or later there will have to come a serious non-tennis contender for these awards, one would assume, but it's not easy to see who right now.

Re: Sportsmen and sportswomen of the year

Good to see he isn't appreciated as just a player, but as a true SPORTSMAN.There's a huuuge difference between the two and Nole lives up to the second in every single way.
