Does Federer like Del Potro better than Djokovic or Nadal?

Everytime these two play, it's always a friendly and warm embrace at the net.

But Nadal and Djokovic don't receive this kind treatment from Federer.

I like Del Potro too. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy.

Federer probably likes him because he's got a bit class, he's calm and reserved, and he's plays a honest style of tennis.

Del Potro is classy even when losing. Nadal, on the other side ...

Roger Federer - Martin Klizan - Lukas Lacko - Milos Raonic - Fernando Verdasco

Dustin Brown - Nick Kyrgios - Norbert Gombos - Stanislas Wawrinka - Dominic Thiem

Isn't he super friendly with Nadal? Has something changed?

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

I still remember their embrace after their Olympic's match. Seemed warm and genuine.

I don't think Fed likes Nadal too much at all to be honest. He only puts on a show for the media since their rivalry is so intense.

Fed's game is totally different to Nadal's. Federer perceives Nadal's moonballing and slow playing as dishonest, as many of us fans do.

Of course, they seem to be great friends even off the court. In fact, it was Federer who kickstarted JMDP's ATP career by arranging for him to get a wild card for Basel back in 2006, he has always like Juan. Besides, everyone likes Del Potro anyway .

Maybe it's some sort of after-effect of, I don't know what you'd call it - "gladiatorial solidarity"? - after that marathon in the Olympic semifinal? I'd think that type of match would be likely to have an effect on the players in a way that most don't. Fed may have felt to some extent that DelPo deserved the win.

Or maybe this hugging tends to go on more in finals - or tough matches generally? - than in non-finals? I don't see enough matches to know.

I was going to say that too. Off topic but Del Potro got a sweet draw that year.

Re: Does Federer like Del Potro better than Djokovic or Nadal?

If Fed really likes someone among his 3 closest rivals, I think that's Nadal. It took some time but the beatings on court and totally adoration outside it finally won Rafa Fed's affection.

There is not more intense rivalry than Fed-Nole and it doesnt look like Fed likes Nole that much

Federer likes the ones who idolised them as teenagers growing up ( Delpo, Goffin etc )
Would be ungrateful to his fans like Delpo if he didn't at least pretend to like him.

Federer likes everyone when he's beating them, when he's losing to them it's a different story.
