I can honestly say no one expected this. Stan must be grateful he has a friend called Roger Federer

Is no one else in Switzerland worthy of the honor? Cancellara isn't running?

Rafael "The Matador of Spin" Nadal
Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Great honor, he deserves it as a current gold medal holder.

Re: Wawrinka to be Switzerland's flagbearer

Cancellara has the road race on the next day in the morning so maybe that was a factor. I know Roger did say he'd love to see Stan with the flag.

When you say was no one running, how many other athletes have won gold for Switzerland at the Olympics?

It was an honest question, I didn't know anyone else besides Federinka & Cancellara

I wish it was Federer but I suppose he declined.
Though very kind of him to pass it on to Waw.

Because it sounds like a "pity gesture". Wawrinka wouldn't be anywhere close to holding a gold medal without Fed.

Yes, Roger was the first choice but he said that another athlete should be given the opportunity and that he would be happy if Stan got the chance.
