More big-names retirees this year?

Already this season, these players have retired...

Schuttler
Luczak
Gonzalez
Brezicki
Acasuso
Ljubicic

Bolded are big-name players. That's quite a bit in 3 months! Also, Blake, Roddick, Hewitt, Haas, Robredo and Ferrero can't have too much time left

Last season, it was....

Lappentti
Ancic
Levy
Johannson
Koubek
Daniel
Hernandez
Vliegen
Aspelin
Moodie
Gaudio
Muster

Fisher
Allegro

Big difference isn't it?

Why does it appear that much more players are quitting this season?

RIP Henry Chinaski. A true MTF legend

Re: More big-names retirees this year?

Well, more players are retiring because it takes more to keep in shape and maintain the physical level it takes to play on tour these days, and that wears on you mentally and makes the game a lot more stressful and less fun than it may have been previous. The game is more of a grind and more physical than ever, the schedule is more jam-packed than ever. Burnout is going to become an ever increasing issue, you're going to see more injuries, and we're going to see more retirements.

Re: More big-names retirees this year?

According The last issue of French Tennis Magazine Jean René Lisnard would have played his last match in Monte Carlo and would be now the coach of Jennifer Brady. I think we can consider it's a big name

I'm surprised Schuettler didn't get a farewell tournament and He has not annouced himself he was retired.

Re: More big-names retirees this year?

I don't think Robredo will retire this year, Ferrero as he stated goes down to his ranking, as he was thinking of retiring last year but had a good ranking. Roddick i think he will retire depending on what he does from Wimbledon to US Open.
