If I were Spanish, I would make another ad showing the French players doping and still failing to win.

Re: Spanish tennis federation planning to sue French TV broadcaster Canal+

They made apologies saying that we are brother countries and the ultimate proof is that Spain discovered an other Joconde painting. Then they showed the original Joconde, the French one and then the Spanish one completely doped with enormous arms
At the end, they showed Gasol, Contador, Nadal and Casillas singing a typical Spanish song with really funny lyrics (making fun of the fact they are doped )

I think the Spaniards reacted this way because it's not the first time when the French media makes these type of insinuations. It's not just this show. They probably see it as a continuous attack. Remember the Noah comments?
Besides, we're talking about international sports stars. This is all a joke for the French audience but for people who watch the videos and maybe don't know the nature of the show?
Your comparison makes no sense because Virenque is a proven doper. If they would have made a video about Federer you wouldn't have thought it's funny.

They could just use a pic of Gael. I'm not saying he dopes.

You cannot be serious! Stop being uptight and get real - this is not a news program or a documentary - this is a COMEDY show.

What part of "A joke or a humorous skit does NOT have to be a true story" do you not understand?

But here's the funny part: the Spanish have no case: the French have already caught one of their own guy: Richard Gasquet, and persecuted him and didn't defend him and called him "our guy" or any such nonsense. So in fact the French have a credibility as being impartial and unbiased in their doping opinions.

So in other words, clearly the Spanish can't play the victim and say "boo hoo, the French are picking on us because they hate us". That's a nonsense shtick which may convince a bunch of tards on teh interwebs but not anyone else. The Spanish need to come up with a better defense/excuse than play the nationalistic card.

Re: Spanish tennis federation planning to sue French TV broadcaster Canal+

WTF?

And now they want to send an official complain through their ambassador in France, and the ministry of Foreign Affairs is commenting these videos ? Don't they have something really important to do ?

They just don't know the Guignols, they do it just for fun, and now it's going to get even "worse". Canal+ never hushed them up, even when they attacking French politicians, so that's not for that stuff it's going to change.

And BTW, Virenque, Longo, Bousquet, Gasquet... The Guignols made fun of them all for doping stories, and there never was a single complain.

Seriously. What a mess for nothing.

Re: Spanish tennis federation planning to sue French TV broadcaster Canal+

The Spanish sooo over reacted to this, why would they go all ape shit over this skit in an Olympic year no less?
Who wants this in the international media right about now?
All i know there is enough guilt to spread around between both the French and Spanish. Nadal's sudden ability to hit serves 10mph more had McEnroe openly questioning it on air several times and no other commentator took the bait.Nadal aint serving that way now.
BTW has anyone noticed how the French seem to be churning out players lately?

The Guignols *are* known in Spain. They have a similar program there ("los guiñoles"), so that's not the issue. Of course they know it's meant as joke in theory, but it may also look as a veiled accusation. Especially as this is not the first time such accusations have been dropped. The French have accused the Spanish players (and specifically Nadal) of doping quite a few times already. It's beyond ridiculous that they can get away with making such strong claims on no ground. So the Spanish tennis federation got fed up with it. I don't think their reaction is out of proportion.

Also, as "Just like heaven" says, Virenque is a proven doper, unlike Contador. And Nadal has never tested positive, unlike Gasquet. So your comparison is pointless.

Your comparison makes no sense because Virenque is a proven doper. If they would have made a video about Federer you wouldn't have thought it's funny.
When the show started about Virenque, he was not a proven doper : only his team had been caught but he was still denying.

And when they made Virenque amazed by Mauresmo's muscles, Mauresmo had no case at all herself

Anyway, you're right that it seems that the Spaniards seem to feel a consistent "French attack" because of the Noah small chronicle (in a supplement from le Monde and Noah himself said afterwards that he could have spoken about other ones than the Spaniards, that was not his main issue ) and in the past Fuentes interview by le Monde (which was consistent with the policy from le Monde and l'Equipe investigating in those cases, in Spain it's completely different and that's the main point where the French and the Spaniards have different opinions : the Spaniards, and esp the Spanish authorities, protect their "sacred cows", that looks as a spectacular political ingerence for the French ... who -Sarkozy- make political ingerences in what they consider much more serious topics ).

But as for les Guignols, this is a complete overreaction : the Guignols just try to find something funny, and to tell you the truth, you probably know like me that their authors have changed and they have been less funny and creative in the past years, then they just tried to take back a cliche which had been effective years ago : the Virenque doping one. With Contador being in the news, and Nadal as well on a different way from the AO final (which has given suspicions to many people, more about Djokovic than about Nadal by the way), it fell on the Spaniards and esp on Nadal who is the most famous of all Spanish sportsmen in France and in the world and who has the muscles fitting with the story : people recognize his marionnette at once, Contador or Gasol is far from being that famous in France and Xavi and Iniesta just don't fit the "doping" cliche.

Anyway, Nadal's reaction sounded quite appropriate to me,

but the Spanish authorities' reaction is such an overreaction that it's unbelievable.

And I've read that they keep on : "the attacks having continued yesterday, the Prime minister will have a meeting with Nadal for breakfast on tuesday" : it sounds like Bagdad bombing attacks !

To tell you the truth, I've come to think of the real reason for the Spanish authorities' reaction :
being in a harsh crisis which they can do little against , they try to aliment the nationalist cliche.

Unfortunately that's what many politicians have had to do in recent years : their power is decreasing, and using the nationalist cliche to aliment a "national spirit" has been used by Bush and the Republicans in the USA, by rightist governments in Europe, by the Chinese government which is contested inside and uses every nationalistic opportunity, etc.

Imo this is the only plausible reason for this highly ridiculous reaction from the Spanish authorities.

As for les Guignols, they just don't understand and don't fear all that and they will keep on doing what they have done for 20 years : using funny cliches. Never any French government laughed at has been able to do anything against them in their own country (and you know that Sarkozy has been immensely more attacked than the Spaniards), they don't fear Spanish government !

Besides, someone said that the Spaniards used to have a Spanish version of les Guignols in the Spanish version of canal+, which makes all this even more difficult to understand, but it seems that this show has been stopped years ago.

Please people like you who understand : keep on telling Spaniards taht they make themselves ridiculous by their reactions and they should just ignore that funny show.

useless old guy
