Roland Garros Posters from 1980 to 2010

works of art, most of them. It's interesting to compare art and fashion styles in the past 3 decades. And that one from 1981 with Borg is hilarious, I love it I like all of them, especially 1983 (Vladimir Velickovic) and 1990 (this one captures the clay spirit of RG, merges tradition and modern times) Check them out here http://webexpedition18.com/articles/...-1980-to-2010/

84 and 85 are totally 80's, first reminds me of David Bowie from that time, second is influenced by computer graphics, home computers revolution of the 80s. Great stuff.

-01 and -08 are nice. I'm not quite sure why the -03 one appeals to me.

I love RG posters, somebody had a great idea (and taste) to combine art with sports. From this selection my favourites are the ones from: 1982,'84(Aillaud),'87,'89,'98 and 2006.

the 80s ones by far the best. lot of meaningless pretentious crap from 2000 on, only 2003 barely makes the mark.

Re: Roland Garros Posters from 1980 to 2010

Thanks for the link, very interesting.

For some reason, I like '96 the best, out of all of them it reminds me of RG the most.
I'm in the minority I guess, but I love 2000.

And why did Miro put green in his '91 poster, was he secretly a Beckertard, hmmm, questions...

Re: Roland Garros Posters from 1980 to 2010

Thanks for the link - very interesting.

My favourite is 1984 by Aillaud. It's simple, yet captures the court, the Frenchness of the event, and the colour of the surface of the event all at once.

I'm not a fan of the weird "suggestive" stuff from 2000 onwards. 2008 - wtf? 2006, 2001 - where's RG in this apart from the words "Roland Garros" in the posters? At least you can discern some vague outline of a tennis racquet in the 2000 poster (not that I'm a fan of it). I've no idea where the tennis is in the "art" in those posters.
