Nadal & Shakira ... I think it's on

Their handlers vehemently deny it, but I suspect there’s something there. Last July Rafa purchased a home in the Dominican Republic [where Shakira lives] and now he's making steamy videos with her in Barcelona … lucky SOB!

GOOD FOR RAFA and what better way to motivate and inspire him from injury than a piece of cougar tail like Shakira

The Daily Telegraph:
Shakira shared a cozy meal with tennis star Rafael Nadal in Spain, sparking more rumours of a love match between the pair.

They were spotted dining at the W Hotel in Barcelona after shooting a video together there late last week, reports the New York Post.

Shakira earlier this month celebrated her 33rd birthday with longtime fiancé Antonio De La Rua, while Nadal has been dating high school sweetheart Maria Francisca Perello, aka Xisca, for nearly four years.

An eyewitness told the Post of the Barcelona encounter, "There was just the two of them at the table together. They were whispering and all smiles. It definitely looked like they are more than just friends. They were there for a few days shooting."

But Nadal's rep, Benito Pérez-Barbadillo, said the dinner was organized with the director to brief Rafa on what was expected from him in the video." Shakira's rep declined to comment.

It was the latest in a series of meetings between the singer and the tennis star which has sparked intense online speculation.

Shakira watched Nadal beat Nikolay Davydenko in Abu Dhabi in December 2008 after doing a concert there. They also cozied up last March when she watched him qualify for the fourth round of the Miami Master Series. After the match, Shakira reportedly asked Nadal if he wanted her to "teach him how to sing" in exchange for him teaching her "how to play." She also said in a filmed interview, "We all know he's an animal on the court, and we're all really proud of him."

Last September, we revealed the pair were flirting at Nobu Tribeca as Shakira promoted her new album, "She-Wolf."

For his sake, I hope not. I mean it would be fun while it lasted, but she strikes me as the sort of girl who "takes your voice & leaves you howling at the moon" (to quote Bob Dylan).

While I'm not a fan of her music, she seems to have some intelligence/substance and does a ton of humanitarian work. According to Wikipedia, "Shakira is interested in world history and frequently studies the history and languages of the countries she visits. After her Oral Fixation tour ended in summer 2007, Shakira attended a class in Los Angeles at UCLA, on the History of Western Civilization. She used her middle and last names, Isabel Mebarak, and told the professor she was visiting from Colombia so as to avoid being recognized as a celebrity.

If mods don't want to lock this, then at least put it in offtopic.

I'm just judging by own limited experience of glamorous women in professions such as singing, acting, & modelling. Those with a touch of wildness about them (which hardly precludes either intelligence or charitable concerns) can be great fun but will chew you up & spit you out; they should come with a caveat emptor. But don't take my word for it. Look what happened to John McEnroe & Andre Agassi.

Good point. But while Rafa's still very young, he seems pretty mature for his age and I think he more than deserves the freedom to make his own choices [whether good or bad]. And as with any romance/relationship, there's always the risk of pain and sorrow.

Oh relax people. While this isn’t an x’s and o’s technical debate, I do think it’s relevant when a player of Nadal’s stature is potentially involved in such a high-profile relationship. [and being new in here, I wasn't aware of posting in an 'off-topic' thread]

Mods - move to 'off-topic' if deemed necessary

Shouldn't Shakira have way too much class for this guy?
