Whats the deal with MTF and Slam final losers?

Why does MTF treat those who lose slam finals worse than those who lose in the first round? Is the majority really that ignorant?

Since when was being a runner up deserving of more criticism than losing in the quarters or whatever?

I love all aspects of TENNIS.

Federer - The Artist
Murray - The Tactician
Nalbandian - The Ballstriker
Llodra - The S/V

MTF is full of haters. It's kind of self-selecting. Most decent people don't want to read through pages of negativity and childish name-calling. Negative people love it. You kind of need to just filter out the trash.

Immaturity from armchair critics. There's way too much 'Frauderer/MurrayMug/Nadull' hating bullshit on this forum. Some people really need to grow a pair and stop acting like mentally challenged 10 year olds.

+1

Probably the most sensible thing I've read on these boards for a while. A lot of people here thinks it's a simple task of picking up a racquet and pick up slams - if was that easy everyone would be doing it and I have nothing but respect for professional sportsmen / women who made sacrifices and dedicate themselves to try to achieve something in top level sport.

You know what's even worse: On MTF, those who've only won a single slam get even more criticism than ones who've won none.

Tennis is life...

In general you're right but with Murray it gets frustrating that everyone knows what he has to do but he refuses to do it. It's not like he's an overachiever or a fighter. If criticism will make him get more aggressive (not from these boards obviously) than give him as much as he can handle.

I think he tried to be (for him) more aggressive today but Fed defended very well. I think his problem is that he doesn't practice his aggressive mode enough in easier matches so he is less sure of himself when it comes to putting the hammer down. He might be right to play conservatively to give himself his best chance against a lesser opponent but it sort of catches up with him when he has to raise his game at the top level. Having said that, I thought Andy hit his forehand well today (for him). Still needs to work on that side obviously. Maybe his backhand wasn't consistently aggressive enough, considering how good he can be on that wing. Also, I didn't see him at the net hardly at all - obviously that missed volley on set point in the breaker comes to mind and maybe he wouldn't have missed that if he had been getting in there a bit more. But Fed didn't really allow him to play his best - he was too consistent, thus exerting too much pressure when Andy did have a slight opening.

At least Andy does show signs of continued improvement and the guy is obviously working hard and has a lot of desire. People say he is stubborn etc. but I think that can be an advantage also. He at least takes responsibility for how he wants to play and he is entitled to make that choice, though others can/will disagree.

Re: Whats the deal with MTF and Slam final losers?

every thread on here only seems to take about 5-10mins before it just becomes full of mindless hater rubbish.
i would really love to see half of the people who come on here and critisise so cruelly do better then those they make fun of.
half the time theres no point in being reasonable because anything half decent gets mostly ignored and all the pathetic hating just goes on and on

I completely agree with all this.
This is why I'm not posting in GM for a couple days and I'm not even a Murray fan.

Re: Whats the deal with MTF and Slam final losers?

It's really sad the treatment to the runner-up.

But, it's not just about tennis or this forum.

Just think about all the sports in general, or the World Cup or any zero sum event on the Olympics: the third place (or bronze medal) will gonna get happier than the second place (or silver medal)

It's about losing the opportunity? I don't know.
