Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

Wow, this subforum is completely abandoned since last year.
I'm making this one since I have the feeling that he will have a more solid season this year (hopefully a breakthrough year)

I think it's so much easier to have every update on him in one single thread like this.

So today he won against Kukushkin with relative ease on his service gamen (only once broken in the 2nd). A pretty good number of winner against the agressive Kazakh.

Next will be the winner between Cervantes or Duckworth. Allez jeremy!

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

7-6 (5), 6-4 against Duckworth

Winning after being led by a mini break in the first set tiebreaker, and broke back after 0-2 in the second set and broke again in the last game to win the match.
The serve game was very convincing the entire match (bar the first game second set).

Next will be Muller. Allez

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

Already 2 QF this year

He lost to Muller 6-7 3-6. But it's okay, since AO starts Sunday. Gulbis in R1, Kuznetsov/Qualifier in R2. Hopefully he will get through to R3, though he has Nadal

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

Not too disappointed, but I kinda wished he could start to solve Muller's riddle by now. Jeremy went 0-4 on his H2H vs the luxembourgois now (lost 3 times in since 2015, only winning a set).

Move on to AO. 1R is against washed up, but ever unpredictable Gulbis (h2h 2-3, but Jeremy won the last match and the last GS match, both in straight sets). Ernest is another fav of mine, but this year supposes to be Chardy's breakthrough year, so Allez Jeremy!

Yeah, here the fanbase is quasi non-existant. Everywhere else he's actually got a decent fanbase (instagram, facebook etc). But hey at least there's the two of us

I only watched the third set where he lost the set by a DF then I stopped watching, only to find out late in the day that I miss his epic comeback from 4-5 fifth set, winning it 13-11. I was like GODDAMN it, i should have knew it And no highlight to relive that moment...

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

I stopped watching then too, went to sleep but set my alarm to go off later, woke up at 6-5 in the 5th. I completely forgot about 5th set tiebreaks...for some reason kept watching through the rest of that mess of a match with all the match points, so aggravating but it was worth it to see him finally win even it was ugly and mostly because of Gulbis choking horribly.

I don't have much hope for the next round though. He was horrible in that match and it went on for 5 hours. Too bad too, because the draw really opened up with Nadal being out

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

aggraving for you, satisfying for me. The uglier my fav win his/her match, the more I love it .

Kuznetsov is a bit peculiar. He's the lower ranked between the two, but he ended his year and started 2016 in a pretty high note, having a string of victories in challenger circuit and only got defeated by higher ranked players on ATP tour (Nadal, Lopez, Cilic). Meanwhile Chardy lost to players ranked lower than him in the warm-up events, which doesnt bode too well.
Fatigue may play a role though, as you say, since the russian only spent 1h58, while Chardy took 4h47 to finish Gulbis. But as long as the serve holds and his FH regain the consistency, it should be a straight sets win for our Jeremy

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

Only could watch the last couple of game. He sliced a lot on his BH side (which was quite effective somehow, and his net game during those games was fantastic). His return was dire though, he can barely make any point on Andrey's serve. Holding strong till the 3rd set tie break, then he DFed to set up MP for the russian

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

His scheduled tournament up to Miami:

February 08-14 Rotterdam
February 15-21 Delray Beach
February 22-28 Acapulco
March 07-20 Indian Wells
March 21-April Miami

I couldnt find his name in any tournament next week, so I suppose he takes a 2 week breaks (since week 1 AO), then goes to Rotterdam before flying directly to Delray Beach. Could be proven problematic if he actually makes it deep in Rotterdam.

He is defending as the following:
45 points from Rotterdam (R16)
45 points from Marseille (QF)
0 points from Dubai (R32)
10 points from IW (R64)
10 points from Irving Challenger (R16)
45 points from Miami (R32)
TOTAL: 155 points.

In a way it's a good decision to actually play in the golden swing tournaments, because:
1) the competition is not as ruthless as Dubai. Given the entry list, if he plays decent he can only rise in ranking (currently 29, CH 25) and get some confidence from winning some matches.
2) he plays better on clay (only lost to Murray, Federer and Beluccis during european clay season)
3) and playing outdoor clay is preferable than indoor+fast HC for IW and Miami preparation.

I'm hoping this schedule will work out for him. Courage Jeremy!

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

His quarter for Rotterdam:
[1] Richard Gasquet FRA v Jérémy Chardy FRA
Q v Teymuraz Gabashvili RUS
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez ESP v Hyeon Chung KOR
Q v [8] Viktor Troicki SRB

Bad luck meeting the first seed. Richard also seems to be pretty fit, despite questionable debut at Montpellier. H2H is 3-0 (all on HC) for the current French #2 (with Jérémy only having won one set, and lost the 3 tiebreaks they have played). Best of luck then

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

Couldnt watch his two matches (one is unstreamed) but it seems like a very poor tournament for Jérémy. He barely defeated Donskoy in the third set tiebreak (with lots of choking on his serve), now lost to Mahut whom he never lost to before (H2H is now 3-1 for Chardy).

Hopefully his spring american swing will get his groove going. No top 10 players will play at Delray Beach, so he really should capitalize on this.

Re: Chardy 2016 Cheering Thread

Jeremy, what an awful start to the year. He just keeps losing matches to players he really could and/or should beat (Marchenko, Kuznetsov, Mahut) and what was with the Donskoy match? It never should have been that close. The double faults and not converting break points have really been hurting him lately. Delray may not have anyone in the top 10 but there are still some dangerous players in there (Anderson, Tomic, Dimitrov, etc) Normally he would be capable of beating most of the players in the draw but now he seems he could lose to anyone.

His quarter for Delray Beach 2016:

(3)Ivo Karlovic v. Qualifier
(WC)Juan Martin Del Potro v. Denis Kudla
(WC)Noah Rubin v. Sam Groth
Matthew Ebden v. (5)Jeremy Chardy

well of course he must be in the same section with DelPo
