Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

Simone's section in Hamburg qualifying:

(4)Simone BOLELLI v Tobias HINZMANN
(12)Antonio VEIC v Leonardo TAVARES

Good opportunity to qualify, and avenge his loss to Veic from RG qualifying. Hopefully he gets it done, he needs to.

Not saying it's for sure, but he may have tanked Sopot for this tournament. Qualification and a win or 2 here would do him really good.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

Playing like a mug against a mediocre Tavares. Won first set easy, but since lost the 2nd set then served for match at 5-3 in 3rd but got broken to love. Come on Simo win this.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

A close win should give Simone more confidence, but the fact he struggled so much with a mediocre player in Tavares isn't a good sign. Hopefully he got the bad out of his system and can do well in the MD.

He draw Monaco in R1, the winner plays #9 seed Tipsarevic. A pretty decent draw all things considering, he can make the third round if he plays well. Monaco is also coming off retiring in Bastad this week, so hopefully Simone capitalizes.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

He lost to Monaco 63 75. Simo was 2 breaks down in the 2nd set and fought back to 5-5, before losing his serve. So at least he is fighting in his matches again and Monaco was always likely to be a tough opponent on the clay. Unforutnately he still loses 20 points on this week in the rankings so will stay roughly where he is I suppose. Next week he has 32 points to defend from Umag, so will he go back there to qualify? Or will he go to a challenger?

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

Simone is in Umag playing the qualifying there again. He won his first match 6-1 6-2 over a Spanish qualifier. He should easily qualify, and there are some places in the draw he can do damage in.

I'm surprised he lost to Monaco, as the Argentine has been injured and I thought Simone could overpower him, but his form is still too up and down right now. But it is good that he's putting forth more effort in his matches now, and eventually his level will catch up.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

Quite sad he has to play Naso if he wins but of course I'd prefer Simo to qualify.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

Simone was down *1-5 30-40 in the third set vs. a Croatian youngster and has come back to lead the set 6-*5. This would be a huge victory for Simone to fight through and take this, hopefully he can get it done.

But based on this struggle, it's hard to envision him beating Naso unless his level improves.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

Simone lost 6-4 3-6 6-7(1).

Tiebreak, he lost both his serve points down 2-*1, and that basically was it.

Obviously, this is a major, major step backwards. Simone will lose 32 points and this is a horrible way to start the second half of the season for him.

Re: Simone Bolelli aka Superbol

The only positive at this point for Simone is he has less than 100 points to defend these next 4-5 months, so if he ever puts together consistent results, he should get back to the top 100, and make the AO MD in 2012. But unfortunately, his form is all over the place, and even though he's fighting in these matches, which is better than when he was giving up and tanking, he's not playing well.

I'll be very surprised if he doesn't go on a losing streak at this point, as this loss will be painful. His next scheduled event is ATP Kitzbuhel qualifying, then Italian challengers.
