Re: Match points saved (21st century)

MVA struggled to make one out of his three matchpoints at *4-5 in the final set against his compatriot Pico Monaco. Monaco breezed past Arguello after this to win 7-5 in the decider

Voo, has anyone come back from two sets down saving match points in the last three sets? Thanks in advance.

Very good question I don't know if it has ever happened. The specialist of winning matches after saving MP, Nicolas Lapentti was close at Wimbledon 1996. He saved MP's in the 3rd and 4th set (7 in all) but lost to Luke Milligan 4-6 2-6 7-6(5) 7-6(3) 1-6.
According to my memory, the only scoreline in which could've happened:
Wimbledon 1993, S.Lareau def. J.Svensson 2-6 4-6 7-6(4) 7-6(7) 10-8

Re: Match points saved (21st century)

Voo, was there anyone in history who:

1) Won a match after saving a matchpoint

and then:

2) Lost a match after wasting a matchpoint in the next round

Cause today Seppi was really close of making this feat.

Thanks

It's a rather situation. For sure it was happened in Moscow 2003. Koubek had won a match after saving MP but lost in the next round after wasting MP:
2 Mirnyi 6-3 4-6 7-6(8) - 3 MP's
Q Spadea 6-2 6-7(2) 3-6 - 2 MP's

I know a couple matches "the best of five" when a player won a match after saving match point in two sets:

CGSC Munich 1993:
Petr Korda d. Pete Sampras 3-6 7-6(3) 3-6 7-6(10) 13-11 - 5 MP's (4, 1)
Davis Cup 1993:
Richard Fromberg d. Marc-Kevin Goellner 3-6 5-7 7-6(7) 6-2 9-7 - 5 MP's (3, 2)
US Open 1994:
Karel Novacek d. Todd Woodbridge 1-6 5-7 7-6(6) 6-2 7-6(3) - 2 MP's (1, 1)
US Open 1999:
(LL)Max Mirnyi d. Tomas Zib 3-6 2-6 7-6(6) 7-6(4) 6-3 - 6 MP's (2, 4)
Wimbledon 2002:
Feliciano Lopez d. Guillermo Canas 4-6 2-6 7-6(7) 7-5 10-8 - 6 MP's
Australian Open 2009:
Victor Hanescu d. Jan Hernych 3-6 3-6 7-6(7) 7-6(4) 8-6 - 2 MP's (1, 1, -)

EDIT: Lopez actually saved 6 match points in the third set
