Interesting. Why not? Zib is a weak returner. He received 35 aces from Fish in three setter.

Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

41 - Wayne Arthurs (Wimbledon 2007) 5 sets, defeated Thiemo De Bakker
34 - Gael Monfils (Wimbledon 2007), 3 sets, defeated Thomas Johansson
31 - Ivo Karlovic (Wimbledon 2007) 5 sets, lost to Fabrice Santoro

The Monfils match is a very strange one. Only lasted 94 minutes, played late with fading light. Johansson only won 14% of return points. Monfils only served 15 games plus one tie-break, with 49 first serves and 29 second serves, for an average of almost one ace in every two serves! Johansson has had weak vision since being hit by a ball last year, maybe that has something to do with it.

Yes, I was shocked that Monfils had fired so many aces in only 15 games. There are/were some players who always receive many aces (Zib, Enqvist, Agassi etc.) but not T.Johansson Maybe we are the witness of a new Monfils and since that match against ToJo he will be the new King of aces?

Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

Right, here we go...
What is the record for most double faults in a match? It could be in a separate thread but there is of course a connection.
BTW, have you ever seen a love game with 4 aces? The most I've seen is up to 40-0.
And is there another thread for fastest serves ever? (I only managed to find something about Roddick serving at 155mph / 249.4kph at DC 2004)

1) 27 - Ivanisevic against Paes (1995), Kafelnikov against Ivanisevic (1996) - both matches in 5 sets
2) Many times, look at this thread ->
Serving 4 aces in a row
3) I suppose there are not thread for fastest serves ever but I know that issue quite well since 1991.

Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

1) Asking the first Q that has already been brought up before in this thread (!) was very uncharacteristic of me... The most embarrassing thing is that I've even made sort of a bookmark of post #33
2) I'm glad I've asked the 2nd one though - fun thread, esp. that Becker video. Although I agree that Medvedev should have at least put something on the last one, but probably he was too beat up mentally by then... And I wouldn't have imagined someone losing a service game without his opponent even needing to hit a ball.
3) Using Google I found one in this forum. It's untidy, to say the least, but it's better than nothing.

Just making sure: all those aces and double fault marks are only "most since 1991" and not necessarily all-time records, due to lack of information from previous years?

Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

todays atptennis.com

American teenager Sam Querrey is believed to have set an Open Era record for most consecutive aces during a dramatic three-set quarterfinal win over James Blake at the Indianapolis Tennis Championships Saturday.
Querrey fired 10 consecutive aces and a total of 34 in the match that featured no service breaks.
Querrey, 19, began his streak of aces with his 10th ace of the first set on his final service point of the tie-break. The 6' 6'' Californian then served out the second and fourth games of the second set to love with four straight aces in each game. (The first ace of his first service game in the second set came on a second serve.)
Querrey opened the sixth game with an ace, his 10th in a row. He double faulted away the next point, but hit another ace to wind up hitting 11 aces on 12 straight service points.

Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

Interesting info from college tennis but about a guy who has won today first ATP match:

(05/25/2007)
Top-seeded John Isner advanced over LSU’s Ken Skupski in a tight contest, 7-6(8), 7-5. He had 34 aces in that match, including six in the first-set tiebreaker. “I served exceptionally well today and I had to because Ken was playing really well,” Isner said. “We have played four times in the past and he has beaten me twice, so he has had my number in the past. He is a good friend of mine and I have a lot of respect for Ken.”

34 aces in two sets is something extraordinary

That is absolutely phenomenal. That makes a potential haul of 85 in a five set match. Obviously it is rare for a server to keep up that kind of rythm but still. Very impressive.

P.S - Great Stats (not just in this thread or this forum, all over MTF)

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

John Isner has served 30+ aces in three consecutive 3-set matches. Did someone even have such a two match streak before in a best-of-3 tourney? And what about a best of 5?
Voo, this kid is gonna give you a lot of work...

According to your records he's also the first to play 2 "tie-break" matches in one tournament (very few players have had that in a full year).

BTW, in the afformentioned college match he served 2.6 aces per game (counting the TB as one service game)
Can't wait fot him to play a 5-setter
