Re: Winning % in Finals - Active players only, minimum of 5 matches

Updated:

- Enqvist announced retirement so he left the top 10. He retired with an honourable winning percentage of 73,08% in finals. Safin replaces him in the 'hall of fame'.

- Nadal's winning percentage in finals only gets better and better, approaching the incredible 90% mark.

- Following his losses to Nadal in Dubai and Monte Carlo, Federer's percentage decreased a bit, but he maintains the 3rd place nonetheless. Same with Hewitt who stayed in the top 10 even after losing to Murray in San Jose and to Blake in Las Vegas.

- Fish improved his record in finals by winning Houston, so he left the bothersome 2nd spot in the 'hall of shame' and now occupies the 8th place.

Amazing stat on Nadal given he was winning those finals as a 18/19 year old

Re: Winning % in Finals - Active players only, minimum of 5 matches

One more update heading into Roland Garros. Davydenko loses the runner-up spot to Federer after losing the final at Estoril, but manages to stay in the top 5 by winning the Poertschach tournament. ToJo and Schalken are now sharing the #3 spot. Nadal is two finals away from achieving the incredible 90% mark.

In the bottom table, Stepanek becomes the new member of the 'hall of shame' by losing to Robredo in the TMS Hamburg final, appearing at equal #5. Grosjean, Fish and Puerta move one spot down each, kicking El Aynaoui off the list, at least for now.

Nadal has lost 2 finals in his career - I know one was in 2004 in Auckland against Hrbaty, can someone just remind me the other loss? I've drawn a blank

Re: Winning % in Finals - Active players only, minimum of 5 matches

Update heading into Wimbledon.

Nadal is one final away from reaching 90%. Federer dropped to 5th after losing one more final to Nadal at Roland Garros, even though he made it up by winning Halle. Hewitt increased his percentage by winning his first final (Queen's) in 18 months after 4 failed attempts, but stays at 9th nevertheless.

Ancic won his second title at St. Hertogenbosch, improving his percentage and dropping to 9th in the hall of shame.

He may not have many winning moments, but he chooses them well. Seriously though, most of his final wins are against good but not great players - twice in a row in Rosmalen against Clement, for example, who has always been his pigeon, plus other "solid" baseliners like Lapentti, Nieminen and Schuettler.

Although now that I've actually done some checking... believe it or not, he has beaten both Rios and Haas in finals (Boston 97 and Auckland 99). I take back what I said!

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

We'll see tomorrow if Federer is able to stop Rafa from reaching the 90% mark.

Re: Winning % in Finals - Active players only, minimum of 5 matches

Update:

- Federer prevents Nadal from reaching 90% by winning the final in Wimbledon. Federer moves back to 2nd place, while Nadal keeps the lead although with a decrease in his percentage.

- Davydenko drops to 7th after his loss to Robredo in Bastad.

- Roddick stayed at 8th despite the loss to Blake in Indianapolis.

- Calleri improved his bad record in finals by defeating Chela in Kitzbuhel. He no longer shares the 2nd worst place with Volandri. He now shares the 8th worst place with Ancic.
