Thanks! I have updated things for 2012, and the end of 2011.

#1 v. #2 finals occured at Australia and at Roland Garros, both Djokovic v. Nadal, while the #3 v. #4 final at Wimbledon was the first since 2003 in London to not feature a top 2 seed.

All top 4 seeds made back-to-back semifinals, at 2011 USO and 2012 AO, in fact this occurred at 3 of the last 4 at that point, stretching to 2011 RG. Both were the first time that had happened.

The 2012 US Open saw the 7th time that 7 top 8 seeds made the quarterfinals, and the first for the USO, making it the last of the slams to reach that milestone.

Re: Playing to seeds in Grand Slams

An update for the first three events of 2013.

The top 4 seeds all made the semifinals in Australia; this was the 15th time overall, and 4th in Australia. It also marked back-to-back years that the top 4 seeds all advanced that far.

Roland Garros saw a #3 vs. #4 final, a fairly rare occurance in GSs. It was the 56th final without a top 2 seed, and the 23rd such RG final.

Wimbledon's 1 vs. 2 final was the 13th for the event, and the 40th overall. Just 6 of the top 16 seeds made the last 16, the lowest number in four years, since RG 2008. Still, it's a long way from the Wimbledon record, set in 2002, when just 2 of the top 16 survived to their seeding.

Re: Playing to seeds in Grand Slams

Hope some of our "Data Gurus" here can update this. After 2009, the Big 4 really were consistent in entering week 2 in Majors . will be an interesting analysis. It can also put a dampener on the "Weak era" arguments or may strenthen it (data is only as good as the analyst)..

Thanks in advance.. I am a Trivia buff but do not have the "data mining" skills to write queries ..

Thanks Pratik and others who provide link to this interesting thread..

Slasher started this in GM:
Strength of Grand Slam seeds since 1968 [Possible link to Strength of Eras?]
Table summarized though, no names and/or seed numbers.

Murphy's law of argument: Never argue with an idiot! People around might not notice the difference!
