Hewitt recalled to Australian team

Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt has been recalled to lead Australia's side in their Asia/Oceania first round tie taking place in Thailand next month.

Hewitt missed Australia’s tie against Chile last September and returns to lead a squad including Chris Guccione, Carsten Ball and teenager Brydan Klein.

"We've picked a good team that I think is capable of winning in Thailand," said Australia captain John Fitzgerald.

Tennis Australia also announced that Darren Cahill was standing down as coach, citing business and personal reasons, and would be replaced by Wally Masur.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the role," Cahill said.

"I wish Fitzy and all the boys the very best of luck in Thailand and hope that it will be a successful first step towards Australia getting back in the World Group by the end of the year."

Meh, Still should of gone with the Gooch there, proven Davis Cup record. What has Brydan done, gone and won a whole lot australian challenger matches that aren't very strong at all. Just don't rate Klein that highly as a prospect but i guess that if he loses that first match, we can always turn to the Gooch in the reverse singles.

Brydan will play both matches, the tie will be over come 5th rubber no matter whatever happens tomoz and Wachirawhatever is a virtual bye so good to get a win for his future prospects.

I wonder if Gooch not playing on Friday has anything to do with his injury retirement from the Delray Beach qualies. Perhaps he doesn't want to risk playing 3 potential matches and only wants to risk playing a doubles match and a singles match if the unthinkable happens and Australia is down 2-1.

Hewitt def. Wachiramanowong 6-3 6-2 6-1 in 1 hour and 23 minutes. Pretty straight forward for Rocky, I think Brydan Klein is going to cause Udomchoke all sorts of trouble.

It will be interesting to see what Klein can do against Udomchoke. Really could go either way.
