Cilic does know that he cannot gain points here? What is the point of wasting energy?

...is he getting a massive appearance fee or something?

Strangely enough I had troubls getting three tickets next to each other for QF day reasonably close to the court.

But you are right, it will be rather empty. Companies buy the tickets, give them to their tennis-ignorant clients who don't care to show up. It has been the same for a long time.

However, I will enjoy my days there nevertheless.

It's obvious that Cilic didn't commit before the deadline, because he wanted to wait for big money offers from the three tournaments. He took the full financial advantage of Del Potro's withdrawal.

next january, after his points from Chennai drop off, he will be able to count his points from Vienna in the rankings.

he has Chennai then Zagreb dropping off very early next year : he needs to play to replace them.

Cilic isn't a star. Why should any of the tournaments offer him big money to participate? Do you think he can draw big and sell tickets? I don't think so.

When I'm good, I'm very good...but when I'm bad, I'm better

Kiefer is also out because he is in in Lyon. So Kubot is first alternate? I hope so much that Kubot can get into MD without playing qualies!

They are trying to get one of Davydenko, Söderling, Haas, Robredo and Verdasco for the third wc.

Yes, if a big player withdraws like it happened in Vienna, Cilic is obviously one of the best alternatives to replace the big player. Vienna also has a lot of Croatians, so of course he will sell some tickets.

Haas could get a WC because he lacks matches. Davydenko and Soderling won't play ofcourse, they need the rest for the big tournaments coming up.
