Kei is already busy in KL!

http://www.malaysianopentennis.com/2010/pdf/Event Off-Court Activities.pdf

Today he had an autograph session at the main stadium's information booth.
Tomorrow, there will be another autograph session with Kei at StarBucks at Barjaya Times Square in KL.

I wonder whether esther's going!?

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing! 1st Stop: Kuala Lumpur

Kei and Baggy met once, in Memphis last year, and he lost 7-5 6-3.
Kei had already hurt his elbow so probably he wasn't playing at his best.
But then Baggy's form at that time was by no means stellar. A you guys know this season the Cypriot has broken back to top 20 for the first time in two years and he had a great summer American hard court season before suffering a shock first round defeat at USO. So I'm sure he wants to put the disappointment back and do well in KL.

I think it will be a very interesting match because they are both very talented shotmakers. They are now injury free and are playing very well. I like Baggy too but I hope Kei can collect some valuable points this week so he can return to top 100 soon.

Btw, Kei didn't need WC after all because there were quite a few withdrawals in MD. His WC has been given to local player Si Yew-Ming.

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing! 1st Stop: Kuala Lumpur

Monday's OOP is out and Kei's name is not in it.

According to his blog, it took him a day and half to reach KL.
First he went from Florida to New York, where he had to wait for a transit flight for eight hours (So he went to Manhattan). Then he flew to Vancouver, then to Hong Kong and finally to KL! Wasn't there any easier flight route?

But he's happy with the hotel that he wants to stay there for a holiday. The room is spacious, he can watch NHK (Japan's public broadcaster) and there's a very good gym in the hotel, he wrote.

He practiced twice on Saturday, in the morning and in the afternoon. He wrote that the court is very slow and he may need some time to get used to the speed.
He expects a tough match against Baghdatis because he's been playing very well recently.

(As always the above is a very rough summary of what Kei wrote and I apologise for any mistake I might have made in translating it! So please don't quote it anywhere. Thx.)

Yes Esther went to the Starbucks autograph session  You bet she wouldn't miss it for the world! I was at the draw ceremony - Kei drew his own name :) - and went to the autograph session after. Must say that I'm very impressed with Kei. He's extremely sweet and upbeat, even when he's obviously ridiculously tired (he kept suppressing yawns throughout).

Will post some photos in the picture thread! :wavey:

Kei's match vs Bagdatis should start at 6 p.m. Malaysian time, which is in about two hours!
I have to run so I can see the match from the first set!

Good luck Kei! :yeah:

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing! 1st Stop: Kuala Lumpur

OMG, that was awful :help::tape::sobbing:
I came home like about 30 minutes ago and, without seeing the result/scores, was searching for live streaming in case the match was still going on.....to no avail....

Is that true that Kei had taping on his wrist? Please no injury again!
In the beginning it was a very promising match from the first 2-3 games. Some exciting points between the two especially when Kei was trying to break back in the 2nd game.
But then it seems like Kei was put off by something and he wasn't fighting like he was at the start.
The commentators kept saying his taped wrist is playing in Kei's mind, especially when Tokyo is up next. (but Kei never mention any injury in the short post match interview with the commentators, he was positive and upbeat about the opportunity to play infront of home crowd next week tho)

After Kei lost the 1st set, I was expecting him to fight his way back like many times before, but it was all over fairly quickly.

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing! 1st Stop: Kuala Lumpur

 Kei was sick according to the tournament facebook. (Courtesy of myamya on GM. Thx!)

Kei was sick sadly but was actually quite heroic to actually complete his match. He probably should not have played.[/b]

So at least it seems it's not another injury.
Hope he'll fare better in Tokyo next week!!

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing! 1st Stop: Kuala Lumpur

Kei arrived in Tokyo today! :D

...Hope he's OK...

He will appear at the opening event from 3 p.m. on Sunday, probably playing a practice match with one of the other participating players: Roddick, Del Potro and Tsonga.
http://rakutenopen.rakuten.co.jp/php/news_detail.php?article_id=jta_tennis_2010100102 (in Japanese)

After the event, he will hold a press conference from 6:20 p.m. at Wilson's Tokyo headquarters which is near the Ariake Stadium.

Btw, Wowow (the official broadcaster) will show the draw ceremony from noon tomorrow on UStream.

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing!: first KL and now Tokyo!

Kei will face Troicki in R1!

They met at the Bermuda challenger final two years ago and Kei won.
Since then Troicki has improved a lot, but I think Kei has a chance if he is fit.

Hope they play on Monday... I can't go on Tuesday!

How exciting for you, hope you can watch Kie play live!
I am hoping Kei was being extremely cautious last week because he wants to give 100% and not disappoint his fans in Japan. Having already missed a couple of chances after his debut 1st rd lost in 07, IMO he really really want to perform well in Tokyo.

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing!: first KL and now Tokyo!

Open practice matches on Centre Court on Sunday:

3 p.m. Tsonga vs Nishikori
4 p.m. Del Potro vs Monfils
5 p.m. Nadal vs Roddick

...I thought of going but there are not many tickets left and I have a headache today, so I decided not to.
There are more players I want to see in top half of the draw, like Kei, Rafa and JMDP, and I have a feeling top half will play on Tuesday...but I can't go on Tuesday! :(

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing!: first KL and now Tokyo!

You're welcome bunny.

I also want Kei to play on Monday because it's public holiday here so I should catch his match live.
On weekdays, I can only get home in time for night matches.

Do you know if Kei's entered doubles as well? I don't think I've watched him in doubles yet.

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing!: first KL and now Tokyo!

Off topic; there's one more opening for Hopman Cup 2011, I'd love the mstery team to be Japan...Nishi + Kimiko Date :)

Re: 2010 Asian Hardcourt Swing!: first KL and now Tokyo!

Kei and Kimiko would be great! :D

Kei's not playing on Monday...
And I can't go on Tuesday!
O dear if he loses I won't be able to see him play!

The thing is apparently Kei had a tape on his wrist during the practice match with Tsonga today.
It seems neither was giving 100%, since it's only a practice match and Tsonga is just coming back from a knee injury, so it's hard to make a guess on their forms.
After the draw ceremony, Kei told media that he's fit and looking forward to playing in front of the Japanese fans, but he's a polite kid so he wouldn't say anything to make us worried...
I really want to believe his words and hope he'll beat Troicki!
But if he has concerns about his wrist he should pull out, really.
