Re: New Haven Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated July 24, 2009)

Baghdatis has already received 5 WC in ATP world tour (Brisbane, San Jose, Memphis, Belgrade & Quenn's). I think, he is not allowed to get any further WC (max 5 is allowed for ATP world tour, ie tournamnts 1000, 500 & 250). He is allowed to get WC for grand slam or challengers (those do not count).

Am I right or wrong ? Because I see various reports that he is asking for WC from New Haven etc.

Smucav has already answered that :

Cincinnati Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated August 17, 2009)

There's no limit on wild cards unless the player was ranked high enough to get in directly. Without looking back at the entry lists/rankings, I can't recall Baghdatis taking any wild cards into tournaments he could have gotten into directly.
Even if Smucav missed one event like that, I guess there's no problem at all.

Only a player like Safin may have problems with this rule

Did you get the qualifying entry-list ?
So far, Smucav didn't display it.

In the wildcard topic, they only talk about Americans (and players from Australia and France who have a partnership for their grand slam).

As everybody i'm waiting the qualifying list. I'm wondering cos the USO qualies start the same week than New Haven so if he asks a WC for New Haven i assume he doesn't want to play the US qualies. I'm wrong ?

you're absolutely right as the USO qualies start on tuesday.

We will see, I hope he gets a WC in the US Open

Re: New Haven Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated July 24, 2009)

The French media confirm that Gasquet would come back in New Haven, hence through a WC.

As for Baghdatis, he's not entered in the qualifying entry-list in the US Open, then he might also take part here if he gets a WC (if the Americans consider him more interesting than Jordan Cox or Chase Buchanan )

It was not a clean confirmation, more a hint that he might return to the courts in New Haven.

Actually I did just read the article in l'Equipe (thans to TRuc ) and actually it's "he should" not he "might".

Anyway, imo, it confirms they have been in contact with the organization to get a wild-card there.

You're absolutely right. Marcos said in a recent interview he doesn't want to play the US qualies. He prefers instead to train for two weeks... possibly rest and recover as well..

The local New Haven paper seems to think he won't be getting a WC.
