How Much Do Players Run in a Tennis Match

Watching Djokovic and Nadal play a match always made me wonder how far these guys run during the course of a match. It's obvious they run several miles but never saw any statistics or numbers for that. I've also always been interested in wondering how much a tennis player runs compared to athletes in other sports. After googling it a bit, I found an interesting stat that Djokovic and Nadal both ran about 15 miles or so during the 2012 Australian Open. It was also interesting to see that Djokovic runs more on average than Nadal over the course of a full tournament. For some reason I thought it would be the other way around.
As far as comparing tennis to other sports, tennis was usually No. 2 or No. 3 in the charts and studies I saw, with only soccer ahead at No. 1.
Has anyone ever measured how much they walk and run during a tennis match? I imagine I usually go for two or three miles but it should be interesting to calculate someday.

You need to take in account set and how many hours tey both played. If i recall Nole vs Stan was 5 hours then Nole vs Rafa was another marathon.

But these 2 are those i cam consider top runners.

Suicide:
Doha´14(T) - Houston´14(W)
Miami´15(W) - Madrid´15(T)
- Nottingham´15(T) - Winston Salem´15(W)

FITD:
Washington´14 - Halle´14

2014 - PAW-> 51st - Suicide->41st - FITD->28th
2015 - PAW-> 38th - Suicide->1st - FITD->10th
Race - PAW-> 43rd - Suicide->1st - FITD->5th

This week Ferrer and Ndal played a 1.5 hours set, at the end of which the stats showed Ferrer over 2KM and Nadal at 1.7KM.
Also, In Wawa's match against Cilic he ran 500M in the bageled set.

Hopefully that can give you a ball park.

I really thought numbers were much bigger. More like football, where players average runs about 8 or 9km

Not at all. But if you count one week of tournament, it's way more than the football players.

Re: How Much Do Players Run in a Tennis Match

I think in total distance traveled including walking around between the points, ok maybe Nadal and Djokovic both traveled 15 miles in that AO 12 finals. I am pretty sure they both ran only 4-5 miles during the actual match.

I don't think they walked 10 miles between points in that match.
