Re: The Next Point - New tennis site

Hi Everyone,

Another week's worth of posts up on The Next Point, all covering the third week of February:

Outdoor Event Area, a kind of goodbye to the SA Tennis Open. Kind of.

Real Tennis, in which Fernando Verdasco, his hair glistening balefully, blames his latest loss on hardcourt tennis in general.

A Thousand Times Before, hopefully conveying something of how watching Hewitt and Roddick for a decade feels. It feels like one of their matches, only slightly longer.

Infinite Monkeys: some musings on whether Federer blowing lots of matchpoints means all that much.

A Radical Departure: round-ups from Memphis and Marseilles.

Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading.

Jesmond, I am loving your work and I don't say that about many people will definitely add your site to my links.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: The Next Point - New tennis site

Hi Everyone,

Another week's worth of posts up on The Next Point, all covering the final week of February, which has felt like a very long month:

Damp Squibs, which recaps some of the disappointing first round action from Dubai.

Dreamboats, covering quarterfinal action from Acapulco, with some penetrating comments about, um, daytime soap operas.

A Betrayal of Egalitarian Ideals, looking at Richard Gasquet, and arguing that he's playing as well as he can. Some other stuff in there, too.

That's What It's For, recapping the three finals played over the weekend.

Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading.

Re: The Next Point - New tennis site

Hi Everyone,

Another week's worth of posts up on The Next Point, all covering the first week of March, mostly Davis Cup:

Great Matches You’ve Probably Never Heard Of #4, reliving Nadal's win over Moya in the 2008 Chennai semifinal.

Degrees of Impossibility, previewing what shaped up to be a monumentally predictable Davis Cup first round.

Must Be Nice, in which it might look like I'm having a go at Janko Tipsarevic. Really I'm expressing dissatisfaction with sports journalism, especially as it pertains to Janko Tipsarevic. Also more Davis Cup.

Just Ask Your Pop. There is no prize for getting the reference in the title, beyond a smug sense of satisfaction. More Davis Cup!

Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading.

Hi Everyone,

Another week's worth of posts up on The Next Point, all covering the early going at Indian Wells:

Luck of the Draw: Indian Wells: a draw preview of Indian Wells, in typical fashion.

When Violinists Attack, in which I manage to make light of violists and doubles players, and hopefully convey something of the disinterest the rest of the world feels towards Donald Young.

The Roger Federer of Tennis: in which the fun I'd poked at doubles players turns out to be time well spent.

Anyone Has His Day, commemorating a day of brutal upsets at Indian Wells.

Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading.

Re: The Next Point - New tennis site

Hi Everyone,

Another week's worth of posts up on The Next Point, all covering the last week at Indian Wells:

A Sobering Memento: hot third round action.

Real Tennis Ensued, featuring the excellent match between Harrison and Raonic, including a near-obligatory dig at Fernando Verdasco. I also make fun of Gulbis, and probably others.

A Moment In The Sun, in which I apply a lit-crit blowtorch to Amir Weintraub's latest update. Sorry.

Doubles Is Cool, examining an exciting new trend in pro tennis: doubles!

Second Comes Right After First, featuring the Djokovic-Federer semifinal.

An Imperial Victory, featuring the Indian Wells final. If it ended up being slightly more about Nadal than Djokovic, it is the fault of the metaphor I started with. Blame the metaphor.

Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading.

Re: The Next Point - New tennis site

Hi Everyone,

Another week's worth of posts up on The Next Point, mostly covering the first week at Miami:

Great Matches You’ve Probably Never Heard Of #5, featuring the gripping final of the 2000 Paris Indoors, between Marat Safin and Mark Philippoussis.

Scary Canary: del Potro on the comeback trail, and Davydenko on the path to oblivion.

Candles To The Sun. Andy Murray, seriously. Also Verdasco and Wawrinka.

The Whiff Of Gotterdammerung, Andy Roddick, a little less seriously. Plus others.

Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading.

Great job.

Re: The Next Point - New tennis site

Thanks very much, your support is very much appreciated. I'm glad you like the Great Matches section. On that note, if you or anyone else wants to suggest a match that fits the category, I'll be sure to check it out.

Thanks again, and to everyone on MTF who reads it.
